GSG 9
An exciting documentary series by Galileo and Joyn. For the first time ever, the training of the German Federal Police's elite unit GSG9 was filmed over a period of one year. Our camera team, consisting of cameraman Julien Prause and assistants Klemens Duffe and Matthias Wolkowski, shot the four parts of this series for Galileo author Matthias Gonser. It is Joyn and Galileo's most successful in-house production to date. The camera work presented a number of challenges during filming. Delivering high-quality images in which the people involved were not recognisable, despite the reportage style of the work, was just one of them. Staying close to the action despite its fast pace was another. The series combines scenic and reportage sequences. The scenic sequences were partly shot with anamorphic lenses, and it was important for the camera work to maintain the same high visual standard for the reportage sequences.
